Opportunities For The Disabled offers free medical equipment supplies to physically challenged individuals throughout Canada, and to Hospitals, and other organizations, and formost to those individuals who fall through the cracks in our current medical system.
Recycled Medical Equipment Program
What is this program?
The medical equipment donations program of Opportunities for the Disabled was set up in the hopes of helping the physically challenged to lead more fulfilling, and self-sufficient lives, by supplying them with essential medical equipment that was donated to and recycled by O.F.T.D.
We believe that this program aids the physically challenged to live a more fulfilling and independent life by offering them greater freedom of mobility and safety in their own homes.
The individuals who benefit from the program are now able to have greator mobility to enjoy recreation, and to seek employment.
For many physically challenged persons, their largest daily obstacle is the mobility issue, and our program helps to overcome that by supplying wheelchairs, scooters, walkers, and other essential equipment that has been donated to O.F.T.D.
The program is designed fundamentaly as a recycling initiative of used community medical equipment resources,
not for the purchase or funding of new equipment.
Medical equipment donations are accepted at all our offices and depots across Canada. We offer a fair market charitable tax deducitble donations receipt in exchange for the donated equipment.
This donated equipment is then refurbished to suit the needs of our applicants, and then in turn donated to them freely for their personal use.
How does the program work?
The program operates on a for permanent loan basis, that is to say the item donated to a client remains the property of Opportunities for the Disabled, in as much as it may not be sold or disposed of.
Should the individual client no longer require the equipment, it is returned to O.F.T.D. in order to be refurbished and passed on to another client in need.
Who can apply?
The program is open to all disabled persons, and organizations that serve them, but is specifically designed to benefit the lower income socially marginalized person(s), who would not be able to purchase the said equipment on their own.
How do you apply?
Applying for the program is easy, simply telephone any O.F.T.D. office in your area and request a program grant application or download one and or fill it out online here.
The grant application is separated into 3 sections, one for the applicant, one for an assessor, and one for the physician.
Each individual applicant is then processed according to need and availability of the item requested. It is a first come first served basis
Funding for this community initiiative project is made possible by caring individuals, private donations, Corporate donors, and with the kind and generous support from the BC Government.
Applicants can also apply right now online. make sure to print a copy for your records.
