Opportunities for the Disabled began our British Columbia  "Walking for Wheels" Public Awareness  Campaign or P.A.C. in May 1998 with the volunteer direction and Leadership of Sean Stone, Cory Raymond, Matthew Gamache, and several other wonderful volunteers.

Opportunities for the Disabled is proud to have assisted thousands of physically challenged individuals with multi spectrum disabilities to obtain a variety of medical, and computer equipment throughout Canada and Worldwide, in order for them to live more fulfilling and independent lives.

This is all possible only thanks to the generous public support of our local Communities.

Head office goals 2012

2012 Office Goals and Program Activities:

We are planning to expand our equipment funding programs in the 2012-2013 years through various grant requests, and local community support. We will be publishing our tenth anniversary  special edition of our 'Disability Resource Guide'©, and we are offering rewarding volunteer opportunities for our community supporters.

We are currently conducting our public awareness door-to door campaigns throughout the Greator Vancouver, and Vancouver Island regions.

If one of our representatives comes to your door please give generously, the charity relies on public support in majority to fund our programs; in addition to government & private grants.

We are currently hiring campaigners for our "Walking for Wheels" door-to door fundraising campaign staff for the following positions:

  • Public Awareness Campaign Supervisor
  • Corporate Fundraisers
  • Advertising sales representative's
  • Door to Door Public Awareness Campaigners

Door-to-door shared-ride service, makes going places easier. It uses specially-equipped vehicles designed to carry passengers with physical or cognitive disabilities who need assistance to use public transit.

Fully accessible to people of all abilities, enabling everyone to travel by bus, SkyTrain, SeaBus and West Coast Express. Our fleet of vehicles has low floors with ramps and high floors with lifts, and all SkyTrain stations have elevators.

Employment and Assistance for Persons with Disabilities provides disability assistance and supplements to provide greater independence for people with disabilities, including security of income, enhanced well-being, and participation in the community.

Emergency and Ambulance  

Phone 911 for immediate emergency

811- Non Emergency The 811 service is operated by trained health-service representatives, who can help callers identify symptoms and advise them on when and where to seek medical treatment in or close to the callers' communities.

ESS -  provides short-term assistance to British Columbians who are forced to leave their homes because of fire, floods, earthquakes or other emergencies. This assistance includes food, lodging, clothing, emotional support and family reunification.

 


Housing 

B.C. HOUSING

Individuals who can live independently and are in receipt of a recognized disability pension, or are considered disabled for income tax purposes, are eligible to apply for subsidized housing, which is rent geared to income. If some support is needed to live, individuals may be eligible for an assisted living development in their community.The Rental Assistance Program provides eligible low-income, working families with cash assistance to help with their monthly rent payments.
